Abstract


SpaceBot Cup is a competition organized by the DLR Space Agency, where robots have to perform a simulated planetary exploration scenario with manipulation tasks. The operating conditions, such as latency of communication, will be approximated to extraterrestrial conditions. The goal is to develop a robotic system which successfully solves the tasks defined by the DLR Space Agency. The robot must be able to map unknown areas, find familiar objects, identify these objects and finally assemble them. The DLR SpaceBot Cup serves the participants as motivation for positioning themselves in the German research and technology landscape, and for recruiting additional partners in the field of space robotics.
