Abstract
Objective: To gain a better understanding of the positive (Pb02) electrode by direct measurement of the physical characteristics involved in the agglomerate-of-spheres (AOS) model.

An understanding of the impact of recharge models and discharge conditions will improve charging technology and will quantify the possible effect of specific schemes on battery life. Detection of an "electroformative force" may provide valuable information on the mechanical behaviour of the positive mass itself, and on the bonding of the mass to the grid. The results will be applicable to valve-regulated and low-maintenance batteries in other cycling duties.
