Abstract
Venezuela is currently characterized by a strong political polarization, whichalso affects education. On the one hand, especially since the end of the year 2000, educationpolitics became a central issue of political confrontation. On the other hand, intensepolitical polarization also contributed to the intensification of controversies on educationpolicies. The article analyses this interrelation between political polarization and conflictson education with regard to three disputed issues: the expansion of access to education andthe evaluation of education quality; the ideologization of the education; and the intentionto strengthen the ‘Estado docente' at the expense of private education.
