Abstract
Cp*2PR (Cp* = 1,2,3,4,5-pentamethyl-1,3-cyclopentadienyl; R = H, N3, MeO, MeS, Me) is formed in good yields by the reaction of PCl3 or PBr3 with appropriate nucleophiles. By following another route, Cp*2PNR2 [R2 = Me2, Et2, (CH2)5] was synthesized by the treatment of appropriate Cl2PNR2 with 2 equiv Cp*Li. The new compds. were characterized by multinuclear NMR and Cp*2PR (R = H, MeO, MeS) and Cp*2PNMe2 were also characterized by single-crystal x-ray diffraction studies. The mol. structure of Cp*2PNMe2 is governed by steric congestion, which typically would lead to a parallel arrangement of the 2 Cp* ligands at the P atom. However, surprisingly, the crystal structure of Cp*2PNMe2 exhibits a tilted, rather than a parallel, conformation of the Cp* groups [tilt angle: 130.6(1)°]. [on SciFinder(R)]
