Abstract
Lithiation of 2,6-dimesitylphenyl iodide with n-BuLi in n-hexane at room temp. followed by dropwise addn. of PCl3 at -78° gave 2,6-dimesitylphenyldichlorophosphine (I) in 34% yield; I was characterized by x-ray crystallog. Owing to steric congestion, the phosphine unit within I is dislocated from the central position which is assocd. with a difference in the P-C-C angles of 20.3(2)° and a compression of the Cl bond distance of the Cl atom involved in this repulsive interaction.
