Abstract
ABSTRACT: Besides the distribution of new knowledge, publications also serve for building reputation in scientific systems. Reputation influences the chances of acquisition, labor market, and career prospects for scientists. For developments that relate to these relationships, scientific disciplines can only take a stand on the basis of an extensive knowledge of their own publication culture. With this in mind, we have carried out a preliminary study on the publication behavior of scientifically active vocational and business educators by interviewing members of the German scientific community „Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik” (vocational and business education). Emphasis was placed on their current and aspired reception and publication behavior with a particular focus on the aspect of reputational exploitation. The survey was supplemented by the assessment of the relevance and reputation of scientific journals of vocational and business education and their listing based thereon. Thus, this paper makes a further contribution to the description of the publication culture in the field of vocational and business education.
