Abstract
For 2,6-dimesitylphenylsilanetriol (1), the nature of the solvent can control the structural motif in the solid state even without incorporation of the solvent into the structure. Silanetriol 1, for which an improved synthesis is reported, provides addnl. donor sites within the mol. which are able to compete with solvent mols. for coordination of the silanol functions. By using different crystn. conditions the authors were able to realize three different supramol. motifs, i.e. cluster, tube and discrete dimer, all stabilized by extended hydrogen bonding.
