Aim and Scope
Due to its apparent worldwide relevance sustainability has gained wide attention both within and outside academia. Technical innovations are – in particular in western societies – often discussed as one, if not the promising way to overcome environmental problems. Among economists, sociologists and lawyers, the fact that institutions matter for understanding social phenomena is widely accepted. Institutions appear to be of high relevance also in the context of sustainability. Together, these insights emphasize the necessity to better understand the interplay of institutions, innovations and sustainability. The workshop is an endeavour to proceed in this direction.
