Beschreibung
Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) is mainly processed by injection molding. Injection molding processes for foaming LSR have not become established so far, because process reliability is often not given. However, it also makes sense to have suitable processes for this class of material, because the density of the vulcanizate is about 1.15 g/cm³. With the processing method described here, density reductions of 0.5 g/cm³ to 1.0 g/cm³ are possible. This reduces the amount of material required to manufacture components. Besides, the insulation behavior against heat and cold as well as the swimming ability can be positively influenced. The swimming ability can be decisive for separation processes in the field of recycling. In this poster, it is shown, among other things, that the mechanical properties for silicone elastomers foamed with water are sufficient to manufacture products using this process. In particular, the density-related characteristic values show that the silicone elastomer almost retains its properties.
