Andreas Ernst holds a chair of Environmental
Systems Analysis and Environmental Psychology at the University of Kassel,
Germany and is one of the directors of the
Center for Environmental Systems Research (CESR). Research foci in his working group SESAM (Socio-environmental Systems Analysis and Modelling) are: Computer simulation of societal behavior and learning in environmental issues, environmental behavior, acceptance, norms, and societal innovations.

He is member of the scientific advisory board of the interdisciplinary journal GAIA. He chaired the Graduate Center for Environmental Resarch and Education
(GradZ), a member of the "Energy Systems of the Future" project of acatech, Leopoldina, and the Union of German Scientific Academies, President of the European Social Simulation Association (ESSA), and organizer and chair of the 3rd World Conference on Social Simulation in 2010. In 2011, he was a "Distinguished
Visiting Scholar" for six months at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
Research Organisation (CSIRO), Townsville, Australia. He served as speaker of the section Environmental Psychology in the German Psychological Society (DGPs) from 2003 to
2007.
