Abstract
Fault-tolerant systems play an important role in aircraft safety design. In this article several three-level fault-tolerant inverter topologies are quantitative analysed in terms of their reliability. The reliability analysis will be investigated within the framework of a multi-state system (MSS) model. The distribution probability of the semiconductor failure types (open- short-circuit) will be taken into account in the analysis. Cosmic radiation is highlighted and evaluated as an important failure mechanism.
