Developing an adequate financial behavior is essential for career entrants to achieve financial well-being in the future, since they are in a new phase of their life having the first real paycheck. To gain new insights about career entrants’ adjustment of their financial behavior in order to achieve financial well-being, we conducted 50 semi-structured in-depth interviews and applied Grounded Theory. Our study reveals that the majority of career entrants demonstrates a discrepancy between their financial behavior and the perception of their future financial well-being. We develop an empirically-based framework showing that the adjustment process of career entrants’ financial behavior in order to achieve financial well-being is moderated by personal factors (e.g., financial literacy) as well as contextual factors (e.g., economic factors).
