Abstract
Based on the back analyses of existing foundations in Frankfurt clay and a numerical parametric study, this paper discusses investigations of the bearing behaviour of piled rafts. The main emphasis is on the settlement reduction, which can be achieved with a piled raft compared to a mat foundation. For a simple example the potential savings of an optimised foundation design are demonstrated.
