The pull and foam method is a new foam injection moulding method which is currently being developed at the Institute of Materials Engineering (IfW) at the University of Kassel. The process principle enables the possibility to partially foam a component. In this way components with locally customized or graded properties can be produced in one processing step. Nearly compact areas lead to a good surface quality and the foamed areas lead to a stiffening of the component. The procedure is an alternative to the existing foam injection moulding techniques and introduces new application fields for foam injection moulding which were previously barred due to insufficient surface qualities or for constructive reasons.
