Abstract
Planning and construction of one-of-a-kind products depend always on specific constraints on the customer's site and requirements. Fulfilling contracted due dates and safeguarding the entire process is of highest relevance for the manufacturing companies. However, material flow simulation is mostly not used regularly for the critical assessment of project risks and especially for the relevant logistical processes. This paper describes the first results of a research project aiming at these issues by developing a method for simulation-based project management integrating relevant logistical aspects. After presenting the state-of-the-art in this area, the consortiums requirements are as well presented as a first technical architecture for a decision support toolset. Implemented demonstrations for a simulation-based rating of project plans are discussed and further steps in the research project are pointed out.
