Abstract

Psychotherapists have a main impact on the outcome of psychotherapies. Psychotherapy training should provide efficiency in therapeutic work. The ability to recognize emotions is a reasonable term and condition for empathic reactions. Empathy is a multidisciplinary relevant ability. N=121 therapists were investigated with the FEEL-Test to answer the question whether therapists in training can decode facial mimic basic emotions better than the normal population. The results show that therapists who are the beginning of the training programme can recognize emotions better than the normal population. It is shown that recognizing emotions was not depending on different types of training programmes. A comparison with the results at the end of the training programme will be aimed to show the possible improvement.
