Zusammenfassung, Abstract
Results on the attenuation properties of a band gap guiding microstructured fiber filled with a nematic liquid crystal are presented. The fiber shows broad transmission bands and moderate attenuation in the visible wavelength range. By electric addressing, the fiber can be utilized either as switchable linear polarizer or as a polarization-independent shutter. In the former case, the plane of polarization can be controlled by adjusting the electric field utilizing a four-electrode setup. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3599848]
