Abstract
A cognitive radio system offers an efficient spectrum utilisation leading to higher data transmission rates. A novel hypothesis test for sensing a primary user signal in a multiple antenna system is presented. The scheme is called Cognitive RAdio sensing Based on the joint distribution of pseudo WIShart matrix Eigenvalues (CRABWISE). It turns out that the resulting performance is close to the optimal sensing performance, namely, energy detection sensing under perfect conditions. The detection performance of CRABWISE is characterized for a standard signaling scheme over a delay-dispersive channel in form of receiver operating characteristics where the optimum threshold for the test is found numerically for different signal-to-noise ratio values.
