The development of a new flexible plastics joining centre is presented in this report. The joining centre is capable of utilising various friction welding procedures on one component in a combined method. Because the workpiece holder is located on a bottom table which is displaceable in the X, Y and Z directions, welds can be executed in different positions on the component in one clamping operation with the friction welding procedures (rotational welding, circular welding and the ROV procedure). This report explains the machine setup and shows results of welds which were manufactured with the prototype. The procedure was developed in a cooperation project between Fischer Kunststoff- Schweißtechnik GmbH and the Institute for Materials Engineering at the University of Kassel.
