Abstract
The optimization of small hydropower sites is a challenging planning task. Modern methods like hydrodynamic-numerical modelling for the analysis of flows and advanced tools for site analysis and optimization are used to improve selected energetic, stream ecological and economic aspects. Site examples from China illustrate the applicability of these methods in specific local situations. Procedures applied to improve planning results are described in detail in practically oriented guidelines.
