The predominantly appellative discourse on sustainability is increasingly shaped by multimodality. Our
article responds to this development with methodological considerations for the analysis of multimodal
performances as representative texts of this discourse. It is oriented towards approaches of multimodal interaction analysis and uses two examples – Rezo's Youtube video “Die Zerstörung der CDU” (‘The destruction
of the CDU’) and the documenta performance “Ecosex Walking Tour” – to examine the complex constitution
of appellative patterns. The aim of the article is to contribute to the differentiation of a linguistic analysis of
the sustainability discourse.
